By 1900, Trumpeter Swans had been almost completely eliminated from North America by over-harvest. Today they are in the midst of an inspiring recovery due to the efforts of many people and agencies. The swans are still absent from significant portions of their historic range and some of their once-important habitats have been degraded or permanently destroyed. Successful restoration and management of Trumpeter Swans will require providing suitable habitat, reestablishing migration routes, and rebuilding distributions of swans that will be secure over time. Vision, public education, effective advocacy, knowledge of the species and its needs, and coordination of management and research are essential to success.
TTSS is at the forefront of these efforts. We unite the efforts of private citizens and public agencies to address the challenges facing Trumpeter Swans and to securely restore these magnificent birds.
